Overhauling Breakfast

I’ve gotten quite a few questions about good breakfast ideas, so let’s get to it. We’ve all been told that breakfast is the “most important meal of the day” and whether or not that’s actually true, it is an important and tasty one! I always advise people to take one meal at a time and "overhaul" it until it becomes manageable, routine and almost second nature.....when that's done, move on to another habit. Within no time, healthy choices are part of you daily routine and seem like they always have been.

Kitchen Staples and Drew's Macro Counting Experience

On this particular Monday, I feel like I need a weekend to recover from the weekend. Saturday was a mix of wonderful celebrations (baby shower, bridal shower and birthday party) an early sweat and even some meal prep and housework snuck in between. I talked a little bit about this on Instagram stories as I prepped chicken in between the baby shower and bridal shower, but your health and fitness interests should never cloud your opportunity to invest in people. I woke up earlier than normal to get in a sweat before the baby shower because it is a priority to me and I knew I would actually have MORE energy throughout the day if I did. People are so much more important than any other hobby we may have and it’s important to remember when things get busy and some things have to take a backseat to others.

Macro Misconceptions and Drew's Lost Bet ;)

I think that there are some misconceptions about this topic and my approach to macro counting, so let’s just clear the air :) The purpose of posts about macro counting is not to convince you that it is the only way to reach your fitness goals, or eat a balanced diet, but to shed light on an approach that has been highly successful for many people and could be for you.

I receive so many questions on instagram about how to implement this approach to eating that I am going to be offering some one-on-one “coaching” in January to help equip those who are interested with the tools to take the guesswork out of nutrition.

If Anyone is Allowed to Sabotage My Sunday, It's Them.....

I’m sure different thoughts come to each person’s mind, but REST come to mine. It’s the only day of the week that I protect with ferocity (good imagery, huh?) from plans, exercise, travel, traffic, and sometimes people (don’t tell).

Church is a tradition, but so much more than that at the same time. My family has always gone, so that part of Sunday has and never will change. It’s refreshing to go and SIT and sing and hear convicting, yet comforting truths wash over me without one single child telling me they need to go the bathroom or have their shoe tied (unless we are volunteering in nursery)

Meet My Friend, Becky!!

I like to think of Becky as a "pen pal," We haven't met in person, but our interests in running, healthy foods, and educating and inspiring others made us fast friends. I tell her once a week that she needs to open a restaurant because her food on any given day looks like a publication in Clean Eats magazine!

With the brightest smile, biggest heart, here's my friend, Becky

Ice Cream Sandwich Cookies

We’ve talked about the method of “counting macros,” and some of the benefits that come along with doing so, but let’s get to the good stuff. Life isn’t meant to be lived eating kale salads every day for the rest of your life, but if I’m being honest--the day I made and enjoyed this recipe, I ate two salads. That’s not a punishment for the cookie, or some weird way to counteract the ice cream, it’s because I understand the breakdown of foods and I needed to eat some lower carb meals in order to fit in that DELICIOUS treat. Loved the ice cream, loved the salads and my intake was the same as any other day…..ahh the beauty of balance.

Macro Monday (Full Day's Worth of Meals)

If I told my 17-year-old self that I would be blogging about ‘What I Ate In a Day,’ I would probably have serious concerns about my future 25-year-old-self. But here I am, and here you are, so I guess you’re interested?

DISCLAIMER: Macros are individual and based on things completely unique to YOU, YOUR BODY, YOUR ACTIVITY LEVELS, YOUR DIET HISTORY, YOUR GENETICS, YOUR GOALS so using my macro numbers will likely not help you too much. I’ve done quite a bit of research and trial and error to get here and would be happy to help some of you do the same, but these are not your numbers. Just an example! (this post gives more info)
