Beauty-related topics aren’t really my niche, but these are two things that go a long way in my opinion-- a good tan, and a white smile. Those are probably high on my priority list because they stay put even when everything else sweats off. I’m embarrassingly minimal with my day-to-day routine and nothing that slows down my 25 minute shower + hair + makeup whirlwind routine in the morning will last long. Thankfully, I run around with kids most of the day and their expectations are pretty low in that category-- a rousing game of dodgeball and they are more than impressed.
My mom has always quoted her Grandpa with the phrase, “that smile is the prettiest thing you’re wearing today,” and it stuck. A smile breaks barriers, greets a stranger, lightens a tense mood and should be shared often. Smile Brilliant has taken mine up a notch over the past few weeks and I’m extremely excited to be sharing the love with one of you! The kit is extremely simple to use at home, effective and easy.

How Does it Work?
Once your kit arrives, you will make the molds for your custom whitening trays. This was a little tricky, but SO worth it when the trays pop in comfortably, stay in place, and you don’t have whitening strips slipping and sliding.
Sometimes teeth whitening causes tooth sensitivity, and while I did experience this, it was extremely minimal and I didn’t even use the gel to diminish the sensitivity, so I think it would be negligible if I had.
The results are visible and fast. I would like to consider my teeth prior to using Smile Brilliant as relatively white, but even I noticed a difference after using!
I’ve never been self-conscious of my smile, but it did change when I had to have some reconstruction due to a hard fall off a doctor’s chair three years ago. I was receiving normal immunizations to attend a mission trip to Guatemala and after the second shot, the nurse turned around, I fainted and fell forward with nothing to break my fall…..except the floor. I have small cracks in my front teeth, some bonding and one tooth that is ¾ fake. It was a pretty traumatic experience for me since I have always taken care of my teeth, but this was out of my control and probably could have been much worse. All that to say, the parts of my teeth that are reconstructed will not whiten with a product like this and I knew that at the onset and am still very pleased with the results.
Working with companies as a rookie blogger definitely lends itself to some “oops” moments. I can personally vouch for the quality of this company since I somehow lost my top tray during the process and they sent me a replacement within a week. It’s great to know they keep your molds on file just in case your greatest talent is losing things….

A Good Tan
I love the sun, so much in fact that I joke to Drew when I am cold that I am “solar-powered” and need to get to the sun. There’s nothing more relaxing to me than laying by the pool or going to the beach--it’s pure bliss that comes with a price.Not only and I hearing more and more about the effects of sun on our skin and premature aging, but family history plays a big role as well. I’m only 25, but I have had multiple moles removed and also dealt with a bit more invasive “skin scare” in college that included a plastic surgeon and stitches (twice) on my face all a few months before my wedding. While a natural, deep tan is nice, it’s not worth the potential price to me and it’s with NO SHAME I’ll fake tan.
Now that my secret is out, you might be on the lookout for strange smells and streaks, but I cover my tracks pretty well. It helps that my parents and family have naturally dark skin, so it’s not too suspect for me to maintain my color well throughout the year with the right product. One of my favorite things about the product is that it smells like coconuts instead of most bronzing lotions and Drew appreciates that too. AND no matter how sweaty things get at the gym or on a run this winter, I'll still have some color that isn't going anywhere.
The process is truly as simple as these three steps:
- Shower and exfoliate skin throughly
- Dry off, apply mousse to the tanning mitt and rub it in
- Allow it to dry before putting clothes on (5-6 minutes) then let it sit for 7 hours
In all honesty, I usually sleep in it overnight then rinse it off the next day. I noticed that our sheets smelled quite coconutty even though I didn't see color on them. I also felt that this product wasn't as absorbent as another product I have tried, but that it was a worthwhile trade for the natural color and the smell (I'm not the only one who thinks so).
